It's hard to believe it's been two weeks since we brought home our little man, Crew, home from the hospital. I still can't believe we have a baby boy! He's so incredibly perfect, and we are so in love with him.
The first week home was a little challenging. Crew lost 10.4% of his body weight before we brought him home, so we had to try to get him to gain weight through frequent feedings and supplementation. He also had jaundice and had to be on a biliblanket light for two days to get his bilirubin levels down. The challenging part was that the jaundice made him so tired, it was hard to keep him awake for a feeding, which, in turn, made it difficult to try to get him to pack on some ounces! Thankfully I had my mother-in-law, Diane, at our house to help out when I needed it. My mom stopped by to help lots, too (I have the best moms!). By the end of last week his bilirubin levels were down (yeah!) and his weight went up to 7 pounds 5.7 ounces.
This week was a little smoother. Because Crew was gaining weight, I was able to back off on the supplementation. Today I had an appointment for his weight check, and he weighed 7 pounds 13.5 ounces. WAHOOO!!! What a champ! It's so great to be settling into a routine. I feel much more rested and less stressed, and Crew seems like a happy and content little guy. Can't wait to see what next week brings!
