After the flu, the excitement began. About ten month ago, Jer and I set a goal for ourselves to save like crazy so we could have a down payment to build a house. I made a ginormous savings thermometer as motivation and for tracking our savings progress (something only a nerdy school teacher would do). We gave ourselves a year to meet our goal, with a plan of having enough money for a down payment by April. After saving, and saving, and couponing, and staying away from shopping malls (me) and Gander Mountain (Jer), we made our goal and filled our thermometer in less than ten months! WAHOO! I couldn't reach the top of the thermometer, so Jer had to do the last bit of coloring (One of the perks of having a tall hubby).
So, now that we have our down payment, we've been getting the ball rolling on house stuff. We've been meeting with our builder, Rob Mork, and we've begun the design process. Last week he gave us a rough draft of our house plans. :) It definitely made things seem more real seeing those!
As for where we're putting the house, we got that figured out this week. We've had our eye on two lots in the Timberline Trail subdivision in Wausau for a while, and on Tuesday, Jer and I met with a lawyer and the subdivision owner and drew up an offer! We got a lot and an address now! The pic below shows our lot. It's the corner lot across the street on the right in this pic... the lot with the light post on it. Super excited!!!
And that's where we're at now with the house. The next month we'll continue the designing stuff, and will hopefully break ground somewhere between mid-March and April. :)
I didn't get a chance to wish my big bro, Mitch, a happy Birthday on here. So, Happy Belated Birthday Mitch!!! I love you!!!... even though you fed my baby angel fish to your piranha when we were little. I guess I forgive you for that. ;) Thanks for being a great big brother. Miss you! -Meg
